So here is a new blog I am reading and really liking

http://intersections.wordpress.com/

It's on migration and race issues.

Now please give me the name of a site I might not know of that you are reading.

Don't say Daily Kos, m'kay?

TIA

Speaking of links:
Not sure if you caught this online game which is initially interesting but I found it was extremely annoying after a time. http://pmog.com/

The "game" is to earn points by visiting new websites and creating "lightposts" and "portals" which direct other players to related websites.

I've seen (and like) 'we make money' before, but not the second one, so thanks!
I will try to play that game...looks a little daunting, but maybe I just need some coffee.

PMOG was a lot more fun when it was in beta and you could kind of get to know everyone else on the forums. Once it got out of beta I actually quit playing cause of the silliness, though I do still own the PMOG LJ community :-). Also, sometimes there is a conflict between the PMOG FF extension and other extensions and I wanted my zotero more.

Right?? These blogs have been keeping me busy for the past few months. I have to remind myself to do actual work when I'm deep in reading these.

Hey, have you read any of Kuusisto's books? Thoughts? I was thinking he might be interesting to assign in the Media, Culture and Identity class...

I have read Eavesdropping, and loved it. I don't know how well it would mesh with that class topic though.

I told my students that if they never went to university and watched TED talks all day, they would probably get a better education.

i just stumbled across viralvideochart.com which not only posts some fun metrics (graphs! charts!) also puts up a list of blog posts linking to the videos in question. (most recent discovery: snoop dogg collaborating with willie nelson)

i'm constantly browsing buzzfeed.com (and of course, jason kottke has been rocking the internet for years at kottke.org), upenn's language log is a great look at events from a linguistic point of view written with a lot of erudition and a good dose of humor (they like to lay a smackdown on derrida from time to time, and their posts on taboo and taboo avoidance are always fun).

finally, lemme plug former gallatina chinaka hodge, who blogs at thickwitness.com about a wide array of topics (this recent post on the n-word and the new nas album is a good sample)

the lighter side
http://stephenfry.com/blog/
http://www.mustardweb.org/

both fulfill my love of all things anglo, and both are takes on the lighter side, keeping me in good humour! (brit spelling intentional...)

stephen fry hasn't updated in a while, perhaps due to his busy work schedule, or a recent severe injury he had. it's worth going back and reading prior entries; there aren't too many since his blog is fairly new, and he often blogs about the state of blogs, which i think you'd be interested in.

otherwise, yes, it's all daily kos, huffington post, etc....

Re: the lighter side
YOu know S. Fry is regarded as a national treasure here, yes?
Even Christopher Hitchens seems to like him.
And this is from a nation who manages to describe everyone as 'crap' in at least one way...

Re: the lighter side
yes, actually, i did know that.
i forgot you were over there and have access to anything fry at any time.

i was a kid who enjoyed 'blackadder,' and fandom grew from there. when they "invented' a little thing called the vcr i was able to backtrack him to his cambridge footlights days, and the delight that was 'a bit of fry and laurie,' and 'jeeves and wooster.' his books are worth a read too, especially his autobio 'moab is my washpot.'

oops. my fanatic is showing.
*major blushing ensues*
(and all this from someone who works in the film biz and never loses her cool over anyone...!)

Have you ever seen this video, which among its many commandments includes, "Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry"?

Otherwise, Twitter has been absorbing more and more of that sort of attention.

Thanks for noise!!
Hiya:

Haven't been editing the blog for ages (well, it seems like it) but just came on today to see that you put a link on your wonderful blog about Intersections. On behalf of Eleni, Lauren, and myself, mucho thanks! Now, to answer your question, I do enjoy the CiF section of the Guardian, but my guilty addiction is gossip blogs. My favorite of the bunch is Dlisted, because of its witty/bitchy posts: http://www.dlisted.com

In the "intellectual category", my friend Abdul K. Kargbo has an awesome blog that I enjoy reading called T'ings 'n Times: http://mightyminnow.wordpress.com/

Take care and thanks again for heads up!
Sanaz
