I crave a road trip

  • Jul. 5th, 2009 at 11:18 PM
I want to hit the road. Drive out to California, take a trip up the Pacific Coast Highway, visit the giant redwoods again, head through Yosemite, visit the Grand Canyon for the first time, see the Badlands. Maybe do it in a small conversion van or something, where I can pull over whenever I'm exhausted and take a nap before continuing onward.

I've never done a long road trip aside from a Yosemite trip when I was like 3 or 4 years old. I want to take back roads, the proverbial scenic route, stop along the way and check out whatever appeals to me at the moment, dive down side roads just to see where they lead. An mp3 player filled with favorite music to get lost in, the wind whipping through what's left of my hair.. so many places I've always wanted to go, to visit, to experience. And now I'm an old gimpy man, and I never did it, I never did any of it.

At the very least, I want to see the Grand Canyon. I want to walk to the edge, glance out over that amazing vista, and have my knees buckle and have my eyes well up at the incredible beauty nature provides to those that venture out to see it.

I envy those that have traveled and seen the country, the continent, the world. I guess people get jaded to traveling after a while, but it's something I've yearned to do forever.

I want to do a road trip, and old fashioned, all American road trip.

Artesani Park 5K

  • Jul. 5th, 2009 at 10:26 PM
Today I ran a small 5K in Boston. My coach had me cut back this week because I'd increased mileage for six weeks in a row, up to 46.5, on top of speedwork. I definitely needed it. I also happened to have a race in mind for this weekend, so he said it'd be a good opportunity to really feel fresh and race fast. So this week, I only ran 24.1 miles.

And it paid off. )

and a more cheerful embedding

I mentioned The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T a few posts back, didn't I? So I decided to look for the Dungeon of Scratchy Violins sequence, and found it. I still think that Matt Mattox is in it about two minutes and twelve seconds in, but if so, he's uncredited. Still, it makes me happy to think it might be him.

Your horoscope - Week of July 6, 2009
The big news is the Lunar Eclipse in your communication zone. Eclipses have a way of helping you move on. They prod and poke you into taking the next step on your journey in life. You may have very intense feelings about one project; however, over the coming days you may come to the realization that you have to drop it. It may be impractical or it could be a matter of timing. By letting go, you'll leave space for a much bigger idea that will have a greater impact and create even greater success.
